It’s Realism, Not Racism

There’s an old theory that human races evolved as people adapted to the environment around them — thus the various physical characteristics — which combined with the other theory that humans originated in Africa will be proven to be silly in due time. A scientific paper titled “Biological Races in Humans” addresses the issue of human race from a biological perspective, and goes out of its way to indicate that race is ultimately a social construct.

Humans have much genetic diversity, but the vast majority of this diversity reflects individual uniqueness and not race.

Geographic dominant haplogroups and their centuries long accomplishments are overlooked in favor of microscopes, and the logical conclusion is that we’re approaching 8 billion distinct races because we’re all unique, sending potentially well meaning scientific research into the GIGO universe — Garbage In, Garbage Out. Biology is wonderful but obviously cannot address the processing of intellectual inputs into technological and economic outputs by races and ethnic groups. But here’s yet another amusing excerpt:

In contrast, Santos et al. (2009) did a similar genetic assessment of Brazilians who self-identified themselves as “whites”, “browns”, and “blacks” and found extensive overlap in the amount of African ancestry among all these “races”. Indeed, many Brazilian “whites” have more African ancestry than some U.S. “blacks”. Obviously, the culturally defined racial categories of “white” and “black” do not have the same genetic meanings in the United States and Brazil.

The Brazilian fact is that 43.1% of the population is mulatto (mixed white and black), and there’s a psychological issue because they want to be identified as white, when they’re not. Nice try, but no cigar. Think of it this way: if a drop of coffee is added to a glass of milk, a latté emerges, and the beverage will never be white again regardless of how much milk is subsequently added. That’s Realism.

But even if we accept that races are a social construct — they’re sub-species, really — we cannot ignore their socio-techno-economic achievement, or lack thereof. If ethnicity is preferred, statistics on a variety of fields exist for a multitude of ethnic groups, from Abyssinians to Hutu, Berbers to Zaghawa, Catalans to Saxons, rendering biology unnecessary for this exercise.

What is obvious is that nowadays we’re caught in vicious cycles of political correctness to shield the inept, and are increasingly dependent on the scientific community to create excuses, rushing to bury the evidence and creating pseudo-science, akin to “Climate Change, CO2, And You“. We’re reverting to Romanticism, embracing emotion and the much advertised and irrelevant beauty of individualism, and elevating the artistic unicorn in all of us in lieu of Realism.

Racism is defined by Merriam-Webster as a “a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race”. But beliefs are not built out of thin air, and are largely constructed from tangible facts, or become faith when unexplained phenomena is in play. Furthermore, human stereotypes are constructed from empirical evidence, not hateful discrimination or unsubstantiated xenophobia.

An article titled “The Ugly, Fascinating History Of The Word ‘Racism‘” adds a timestamp and context to the subject, with Richard Henry Pratt being the first to utter the word “racism” in 1902.

Segregating any class or race of people apart from the rest of the people kills the progress of the segregated people or makes their growth very slow. Association of races and classes is necessary to destroy racism and classism.

But the logic is deficient in our enlightened new world, because when segregation is imposed, it affects all sides — tigers with tigers, lions with lions — and if we’re all created equal, tigers and lions will prosper independent of each other because the natural ability for socio-techno-economic achievement rules the day. Although politically incorrect, maybe Pratt’s words should have been taken at face value.

Although all races and ethnic groups have a natural tendency to associate with their own kind, racism is now used as a speech-sealer to shutdown messages backed by Realism that expose the silliness of Romanticism, especially when the extolled virtues of a group are demonstrably false. But why return to Romanticism and yell Racism at every turn? Because Realism is harsh and brings the emotionless truth to the surface, defeating long-standing erroneous assumptions.

Is it Racism to point out the indisputable fact that the U.S and European Union combined account for almost 50% of global GDP but only 12% of the world’s population? And do you think that’s by chance? The problem faced by the Romantics is that the Realists are now demanding answers and tangible results, and empty poetic promises are no longer acceptable after decades of failed experiments in a futile attempt to correct the wrongs of the past.
