Political Correctness Shields The Inept
Somehow political correctness has progressively encroached itself in people’s lives, and we’re now at a point where nothing can be said or opined, even if it’s true, without the express consent of some invisible, yet ever present force that lurks everywhere. Everyone has become the PC police, and the 1st amendment has become moot.
Hate speech is a favorite, although the intelligence of those demanding its abolishment is far too unreliable for them to realize that there’s no such thing as hate speech. Certainly there’s speech that people hate, but it’s constitutionally protected and that’s the price of freedom. No, one cannot compare yelling fire in a crowded theater—a safety issue although it’s still protected—to being called the n-word, a member of retardation nation, or a cracker, as in whip-cracker which can be a compliment. Having been called a mother-you-know-f-what, I can stipulate that I didn’t like it, it isn't true (slander?), but wouldn’t dream of making cussing illegal.
Then we have social justice vigilantes that still find fault with everything, especially racial issues and economic disparities used as scapegoats. Regardless of the argument’s topic and merit, the illustrious Holier-Than-Thou pull no punches by labeling everyone that disagrees with them a racist, a bigot, or a xenophobe. In most instances they simply repeat the labels like trained parrots and out of context because they lack the argumentative foundation. A social label of disapproval has become the prescription for silencing opposing views without requiring a valid position, never mind intelligent, even if artificial.
Some even go as far as to claim to be anti-fascist but are extremely ill informed to comprehend that they actually behave exactly like fascists: It’s what I say, how I say it, and when I say it, or you’re penalized. Yes, fascist has become a fashionable term used as an umbrella to delineate the boundaries of acceptable social norm according to weak minds. But until one has their finger nails pulled with a pliers in cold blood by the secret state police after having been pulled from one’s bed in the middle of the night—one finds out that sometimes officers and informants are your neighbors and friends—referring to fascism in America is as meaningful as the latest smartphone dating app or coffee concoction. Trust me on this one.
Lastly, we have the fashionable assassination of the English language with what would have been considered groovy expressions such as “stay woke” which is defined as “a political term of African American origin that refers to a perceived awareness of issues concerning social justice and racial justice.” Does it have the grammatical and intellectual power of “so I wuz be like… and he’wuz like…,” “I be sayin…” and “I aks you…”?
If one takes the time to research the above mentioned lingo, one will find plenty of eloquence and cultural justification regarding the terms and expressions, but Western civilization evolved extremely well without African American Vernacular English (AAVE) and will continue to so unless guilt takes over and paralyses natural evolution. As a matter of truth, and to be politically incorrect, AAVE adds nothing of value to society. I wuz like, bankable bet, bro.
Ultimately political correctness, safe spaces and all that jazz are designed to protect the weak and inept, and to block and avoid irrefutable facts that highlight an individual’s or group’s socio-techno-economic shortcomings. Suppressing the truth to spare someone's feelings continuously feeds a lie and is a costly disservice to humanity.
While being respectful and without resorting to slurs, it’s time to start ignoring people’s fragile egos and deliver the refreshing candor that civilization yearns for, as inconvenient as it may be.
